MEDICAID ELIGIBILITY FACT SHEET
FOR PREGNANT WOMEN
I. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
The pregnant woman must be a Kansas resident. In addition, she
must be a U.S. citizen or a qualified alien.
II. RESOURCES
No resource test is applicable.
III. INCOME
The earned and unearned income of the pregnant woman and the
father of the unborn child (if in the home) must be considered.
This includes wages, unemployment benefits, Social Security (except
SSI) and VA benefits, and child support.
Unearned income is counted in full. A $200 work expense deduction
is allowed for each employed person.
IV. INCOME STANDARD
The monthly countable income obtained above is compared to the
standards listed below, which are based on family size. Family
size is determined by including the pregnant woman, the unborn
child, and the father of the unborn child (if in the home). If
the pregnant woman is a minor and living with her parents, the
family size shall also include the parents.
If the income is below the appropriate standard, the woman would
qualify for Medicaid.
