Child Protective ServicesIf you suspect a child is being abused or neglected in
Kansas, please contact the Kansas Protection Report Center (PRC) at
1-800-922-5330. Telephone lines
at the Protection Report Center are staffed24 hours a day. In the
event of an emergency contact your local law enforcement or call 911.
Every call is taken seriously and every effort will be made to protect
your identity. When a report of abuse or neglect is made to SRS, it is first screened to determine if SRS should become involved and based. If the report meets the criteria for SRS involvement, it is investigated and assessed by a SRS social worker. Law enforcement may also investigate concerns or a joint investigation is conducted. If it is determined that the childs safety is at risk, then a recommendation is made to the court regarding the necessary action that should be taken. Child Protective Services (CPS) may also be provided in non-abuse or neglect situations, such as an out-of-control child, truancy, overwhelmed parents, and runaways. Investigations often result in families receiving an array of services such as family preservation, foster care, or other services available in the community.
