Adoption/Alternative
Permanencies services benefit children whose parents have had their
parental rights terminated or relinquished. Most children who are
available for adoption though SRS have also suffered abuse and/or
neglect and have significant medical, emotional, or developmental
needs. On October 1, 1996, SRS contracted all adoption services
to a single statewide private agency whose primary business is to
find homes for children in need of permanent families. The contract
agency is responsible for the recruitment and training of prospective
families and for preparation and placement of children into those
homes. The SRS social worker is responsible for monitoring service
delivery to achieve established outcomes.
