A Very Special Thank You From Our RCBVI Intern,
Carletta Lynn Anderson

Carletta Johnson sitting at her desk.

As a representative from Emporia State University in the Counseling Education and Rehabilitation Programs, I was pleased to work at the RCBVI to complete the requirements of Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Services Education. I successfully graduated with my degree on May 15, 2004 (actually will be an August graduate).

I began my 600 hours internship journey at RCBVI on January 12th and will sadly come to a close on July 2, 2004. This is my very first experience working with individuals who are blind or visually impaired. My past experiences were in the Healthcare/Nursing for many years from Nursing Assistant, Medication Assistant and Nursing Student.

During my experience, I have learned a broad spectrum of duties from Vocational Assessments to Job Shadowing. I assisted the Transition College Students who are attending Washburn University and was involved with the VIEWS program that the Center had in June 2004. I participated in the RCBVI Community Integration Program on Wednesday afternoons. I also volunteered at the Center as a reader during the month of June on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

My future goal is to become a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, but graduate school will be in the near future. Currently, I would like to use my skills to work as a Human Services Specialist or a Paraprofessional at a local school district working with children who are blind or visually impaired.

My recent academic accomplishments are an Associate in Science Degree (in 1999) and Associate in Art Degree (in 2002) from Allen County Community College in Burlingame, Kansas.

In 2003, I received the KRA Mary Quinn Scholarship award during the fall conference in November at Emporia State University.

I currently live in Topeka. I am married to husband Darren for 16 years and have one daughter Deborah, age 14, who will be starting high school this fall.

Dear RCBVI Staff:

I would like to take the opportunity to thank each and everyone for inviting me with open arms into your agency as your intern. It was truly an honor and I was deeply touched. You have made my stay a very unique and rewarding journey. I have learned so many new skills and I will take that knowledge with me wherever future jobs may lead. I really enjoyed working with the clients and staff.

Thank you all for your support and encouragement. I wish you the very best and May God bless. I will miss you all.

Your friend always,
Carletta Lynn Anderson
