Vocational Rehabilitation
(VR)

Master's level counselors offer specialized services to help participants gain and maintain employment. Specific VR services include:

  • assessments to determine eligibility and vocational rehabilitation needs -- assessments are free to participants;
  • rehabilitation counseling and guidance;
  • training to adjust to the work environment, to learn basic independent living skills, and to learn specific work skills through a job tryout, on-the-job training, trade schools, colleges or universities;
  • work related placement services such as job search assistance;
  • rehabilitation technology services to help reduce barriers to employment and independent living; and
  • transition services to help special education students and their families learn about the community resources they will need when the student finishes school and begins working and living independently.

If you are blind or visually impaired and you want to work, contact the VR counselor at your local SRS Regional Office. For further information on the VR program in Kansas, please check out VR Services.
