Kansas Commission
for the Deaf
and Hard of Hearing
(KCDHH)

The mission of Kansas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (KCDHH) is to advocate for and facilitate equal access to quality, coordinated and comprehensive services that enhance the quality of life for Kansans who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Services include:

  • Information and referral on a wide variety of current issues, including the Telecommunications Access Program (TAP), and community resources.

  • Advocacy and mediation related to accessibility of public services, education and employment.

  • Sign Language Interpreter services, such as the Kansas Quality Assurance Screening for certification of interpreters, referral and coordination, online statewide interpreter registry, and continuing education.

  • Public education on a variety of topics including:
    – Information on deafness and hearing loss
    – Legislative or public policy issues
    – Assistive listening devices
    – Safety Communication Sticker Program
    – Development of community resources

Organization

A 17-member Board of Directors is appointed by the Governor. Board meetings are held quarterly and are open to the public. KCDHH was established in 1982.
