Program Update

BEP Accounting Specialist Hired: Please Welcome George Myers: “I am originally from Little Rock, Arkansas, and attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where I graduated in December 1977 with a degree in Business Administration. I started my career as a “Financial Examiner Trainee” (a.k.a. Bank Examiner) on December 3, 1979 with the Arkansas Banking Department. I left that department in April 1984 to accept a “Financial Examiner III” position with the Office of the State Bank Commissioner in Topeka. I continued to work my way up in the department, and in May 1988, I was promoted to “Field Office Supervisor” for the Topeka examination territory. That same year I earned the designation of “Accredited Financial Examiner” from the nationally recognized organization, “The Society of Financial Examiners”.

I supervised the Topeka territory until December 1998, when I accepted the position of “Review Examiner” in the department’s main office. In 1999, I received the designation of “Certified Examinations Manager” from the Conference of State Bank Supervisors, a nationally recognized organization that promotes and supports State Banking throughout the US. On April 18, 2000, I was promoted to the department’s Director of Examinations, supervising over 40 Bank Examiners, five Regional Managers, and three Review Examiners. I retired in September 2006 with over 27 and one half years as a bank examiner.

I am a Navy Veteran. I recently married Gloria on November 2, 2006, who works for Silver Lake Bank. My son Kyle, age 18, is starting college this fall at K-State. I have two, grown and married daughters with four granddaughters and one grandson. I enjoy being with family, listing to music, going to movies and the theatre, and traveling.”

Regional Update, BEP Consultant Green: Greg Meise has successfully began servicing the Wyandotte County Unified Government (WCUG) locations. He reports the sales are exceptional and all machines that were not working have been serviced and or repaired. He continues to receive very positive feedback from his customers at the various WCUG locations. Thanks Greg!

Regional Update, BEP Consultant Petitjean, Highway Vending: Both eastbound and westbound vending shelters are now operational at the Ellsworth rest areas on I-70. Hutchison Vending out of Hays has done a nice job of erecting these shelters and will be servicing them with a commission going to the BEP set-aside fund. Both Solomon rest area shelters are still closed due to road construction.

Next BEP Training Day: Saturday, October 6, 2007: A meeting of all KVF managers will be conducted at the RCBVI conference room from 10:00 to 3:00 to elect the new officers of the Vendors’ Committee for calendar years 2008 and 2009 and to address KVF manager interests. Lunch is planned. This is a change from the last newsletter that spoke of this as a two hour meeting just for elections. By popular demand, the shorter meeting will be lengthened to become our next BEP Training Day while the weather is good. Please mark your calendars so we can have a great turnout for the training day. Your input regarding agenda items is much appreciated.
