Program Update
True Spirit of Giving: Sandy Terry, KVF #20, manager of the "Snack Zone" located in the Sedgwick County Courthouse in Wichita earned a bicycle from the Coca Cola company during a Nestea promotion. She decided her bicycle days were over so decided to have a drawing for the bicycle. Coke provided tickets and the box, Sandy promoted the drawing as a "Just Sign Up". A lady with two boys won the bicycle and had a better Christmas because of Sandy. Thanks Sandy.
Sneak Preview: Shawn Burke returns as a KVF manager. Shawn Burke assumed the inventory of KVF #66 on December 30, 2004 and became operational January 3, 2005. KVF #66 consists of the Materials Distribution Center (south Postal Facility) and Disability Determination Services, White Lakes Center. Shawn formerly managed these locations in 1999. Welcome back Shawn! We wish you much success with your business.
ServSafe Food Handlers Training: KVF managers who provide food services in federal government locations are required by the General Services Administration (GSA) to complete the food handling training that GSA offers. Please go to www.krha.org to gain access to ServSafe Training in Lawrence and Topeka.
Preventing On-the-Job Injuries: Slip and fall accidents rank high as the cause of work site injuries. Proper shoes can do a lot to prevent accidents and to assure a more comfortable work day while standing and walking. Please explore your options for improved footwear for yourself and your employees. Although the BEP does not endorse a particular company, you may start your search with companies like “Shoes for Crews” (1-800-329-0102 or www.shoesforcrews.com) who offer slip-resistant footwear.
Electronic Fund Transfers: The Kansas Department of Revenue has mandated electronic fund transfers for payment of sales and other taxes for the BEP and other agencies that fall under the requirements of K.S.A. 75-5151 for taxpayers who pay more than $100,000 in taxes any calendar year. This will help reduce paper-handling associated with checks.
