Program Update

Johnson County Offers New Vending Location: On January 13th, Greg Meise and the BEP staff met with Sabrina Mitchell of Johnson County Purchasing to tour their new Sunset Office Building located at 119th and Ridge View Road in Olathe. The Sunset Building will house 350+ county employees brought in from other Johnson County buildings, some of which are presently serviced by Greg. Due to limited vending space, one glass front bottled drink machine and one snack machine will be provided through the Kansas Business Enterprise Program (BEP). The BEP extends its appreciation to Johnson County for this new location and the County’s willingness to help promote employment opportunities for persons who are legally blind.

Fort Riley Update: The Contracting Office at Ft. Riley continues to evaluate the bids submitted for their food services. The Army will not provide a time frame of when the evaluation of bids will be finalized.

Highway Vending Update: The BEP continues to work with SRS Purchasing to identify additional prospective building contractors in the Junction City area to build the vending shelters west of Junction City on Interstate 70.

KVF Manager Bids Awarded: Phillip Carr was awarded the bid for the Wichita Post Office near the airport effective on or after March 1, 2006. Shawn Burke was awarded the Department of Labor’s new location located at 14th and Topeka Blvd. in Topeka. Please share your congratulations with Phillip and Shawn.

President: Debbie Brummer, Vice-President: Jim White, Secretary: Kathy Dawson, Western Representative: Don Wistuba, West Alternate Representative: Scott Erickson (a replacement is needed because of Scott’s resignation); East Representative: Paula Hittle, and East Alternate Representative: Shawn Burke.

Overland Park SRS Office Update: A second meeting was held with Darrell Cossairt and the Employee Committee to improve the perception of vending services provided by Greg Meise, KVF Manager. A long-standing request to return two vending machines to the lobby for public access was granted. These machines will provide snacks and drinks for SRS clients involved in day-long job searches and other SRS business. We express much thanks to Darrell Cossairt for this action.
