Program Update

Mike Rusk Returns to the BEP: Mike Rusk returned to the BEP July 3, 2006 to manage the Carlson Federal Building “Atrium Deli,” KVF #77 in Topeka. This location had been temporarily managed by Patrick Hale who now devotes his full energy into the Docking State Office Building cafeteria. Mike has a wealth of experience and many years behind him as a KVF Manager. He first became a manager March 7, 1974 and managed many different facilities in various locations in Topeka and Lawrence until he resigned December 31, 1997. We wish him much success at the Atrium Deli. Welcome back Mike!

Don Wistuba Recognized for 30 Years of Service: Don Wistuba Deals with Change. The Capitol Building, KVF #1, continues to evolve as remodeling progresses at the Capitol. Don’s 1st floor vending facility has been removed. Vending machines have been temporarily relocated under the northeast stairs. The 3rd floor vending facility remains open but does not offer the easy access to customer traffic previously enjoyed on the 1st floor.

Highway Vending Update:
Hutchison Vending: The Russell rest areas are up and running. Hutchison Vending has done a good job of building these shelters. They really look nice and the redesigned metal gates make it a lot easier to fill the vending machines with product. WaKeeney shelters are in place. KDOT has just finished running electrical power to the shelters. Hooking the electrical to the panel and placing the vending machines are anticipated to be done within the next two weeks. KDOT, Hutchison Vending, and Dan Petitjean, BEP Consultant, met at the Ellsworth rest areas to finalize placement of shelters and to meet local contact people. Hutchison Vending is making arrangements to get concrete slabs poured and has started prefabbing the vending shelters in their warehouse.

Two Rivers Vending: On July 1,Two Rivers Vending of Salina took over the highway vending route previously managed by Phillip Carr. This includes the rest areas at McPherson and Bennington on I-135 and the Solomon rest areas on I-70. Randy with Two Rivers, is pleased with the sales so far, even though the rest areas at Bennington are closed due to road construction. Two Rivers Vending will be paying the BEP a 15% commission as unassigned income.

Fort Riley Update: One new dining facility, Bldg. 1833A Camp Funston, was added in July at Ft. Riley. Additional expansion of dining facilities is expected as more troops are stationed at Ft. Riley.
