The following directions involve the least amount of city driving and are the quickest routes
through the city to reach K.N.I.
From the Kansas Turnpike from the east (that’s from Lawrence or Kansas City, take the second exit) or from the south (that’s from Emporia or Wichita, take the first exit); in either case, that’s the the South Topeka Exit: and proceed west on I-470 to the Gage Blvd. Exit. Turn right (north) on Gage and drive to 21st Street. The Veteran’s Administration Medical Center will be on your right as you get to 21st Street. Turn right (east) on 21st Street and you will drive along the north side of the V.A. Grounds. K.N.I. is located just to the east of the V.A. You will see the Kansas Neurological Institute sign and a bus stop shelter next to the entrance. If you miss the main entrance at 21st and Oakley, continue east to the stop light (Randolph) and turn right onto Randolph. Turn right on Cottonwood Lane and you will have arrived. The Wheatland Building, with the flag pole in front of it, is the first building you will see regardless of which entrance you use.
From U.S. 75 from the South:
Take the I-470/75 by-pass to Gage Blvd. Exit (2nd exit). Turn right (north) on Gage to 21st Street.
From I-70 West (or from U.S. 75 from the north, first you’ll need to get on I-70 West):
Take I-470 by-pass to Gage Blvd. Exit. Turn left (north) on Gage to 21st Street.
An alternate route from either US 75 from the north or I-70 would be to take I-70 west to the Gage Exit and then turn right (south) to 21st street where you would turn left and you will drive along the north side of the V.A. Grounds. K.N.I. is located just to the east of the V.A. This route involves more city driving.
