CEU Requirements:
All working interpreters must earn 3.0 CEUs in a regular two-year cycle. The regular two-year cycle commends on January 1. CEUs shall be divided into two content areas, Professional Studies and General Studies.
How to Track CEUs:
Types of Summary Reports:
There are various options to use in tracking your CEUs:
-
You may use KCDHH's summary form by downloading it here (see more information how to download below).
- If you are member of RID,
you can use their CEU
tracking services, which requires an annual fee. You
can get more information at http://www.rid.org/acet.html.
- You may choose to use another organization or entity to track your CEUs for a fee; i.e., KU Continuing Education program.
Pre-Approved Activities include but is not limited to:
- Approved RID
or MCIS workshops
- ASLTA sponsored workshops
- Kansas Association of Interpreters (KAI) sponsored workshops or conference
- Gallaudet University Regional Center (GURC) at Johnson
County Community College
- Pre-approved MCIS activity
- Annual Missouri Statewide Interpreters Conference
- National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers (CATIE Center) sponsored workshops or conferences
- Nationally recognized conference (i.e., ADARA, PepNet, etc.)
Important Facts about the CEU policy:
- This policy applies to one or both portions of the
KQAS
certification. For instance to maintain one or both
of the portions you must accrue the full 3.0 CEUs
for the two-year cycle; Example: Within the two-year
cycle you want to take the KQAS
to achieve a higher level in one of the portions (Transliterating
portion); you must continue to maintain CEUs
for the other portion (Interpreting), if you don't it
will lapse and will not be current.
- If you plan to attend a workshop and you are uncertain
if it has been pre-approved contact the workshop coordinator
or the presenter.
- This policy applies to all interpreters registered,
certified and working in the state of Kansas. This includes
those who hold an Interpreter Permit (KQAS
Level 1 and/or 2) or Provisional Interpreter Permit
and those with certification other than KQAS
; i.e., NIC,
RID,
et cetera.
- If 3.0 CEUs
are not accrued in the two-year cycle one or both of
the following will happen:
a. KCDHH will remove your name from the registry database and your certification will not be valid in the state of Kansas .
b. Those who with KQAS certification will expire. In order to renew the expired certification interpreters will need to take the entire KQAS test (both the written and performance).

policy and the two-year cycle, see the CEU
Policy. To download a copy of the summary report you
