Licensing
SRS shares human services program licensing responsibility with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. SRS is responsible for licensing the following:
- Community services for adults with developmental disabilities. Approximately 265 Programs are licensed statewide.
- Residential care facilities (RCF) for persons with mental illness. There are 30 licensed RCFs with a total bed capacity of 383.
- Private freestanding psychiatric hospitals. Three hospitals are currently licensed.
- Community Mental Health Centers. 26 CMHCs and two affiliates are licensed.
- Alcohol and drug Programs. More than 251 programs are licensed statewide. In addition, SRS credentials substance abuse counselors who work in SRS-funded alcohol and drug programs.
- Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities. SRS will begin licensing 18 PRTFs beginning January 2007.
