Social Workers

Social workers dedicate themselves to understanding the needs of individuals and families. Through collaboration and partnership in communities, social workers focus on the safety, well being and self sufficiency of persons who receive agency services.

The Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) employs over 400 social workers in all 105 counties, and about 45 social workers in our facilities for mental health and developmental disabilities. If you are looking for a challenging yet rewarding career, join our team of social workers at the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS).

SRS social workers often work with law enforcement, medical and mental health providers, schools, the court system, and other private and state agencies to assist families and individuals.

Adult Protective Services

Adult Protective Services' social workers investigate abuse, neglect, exploitation, and fiduciary abuse of adults, 18 years of age or older, who are unable to protect their own interests, or are harmed or threatened through action or inaction by themselves or others. Typically this includes the elderly, physically disabled, mentally ill, or developmentally disabled.

Investigations are client-focused and individualized with a commitment to protecting the adult, while honoring their freedom of choice and right to refuse services as long as they are able to understand the consequences of their actions.

Child Protective Services

Within Child Protective Services, social workers are dedicated to building a better future, one family at a time, by assessing family strengths and needs, developing service plans, and managing services provided by private agencies. They also provide short-term crisis intervention, help families plan for their safety, and investigate allegations of child abuse.

Building on family strengths and achieving permanency for children are central goals in our family preservation, foster care, and adoption programs.

All social workers must be licensed to practice social work in the state of Kansas.
