Human Services Specialist
Human Services Specialists perform the following common functions:
- Maintain an assigned caseload to ensure proper services are being provided as efficiently and effectively as possible.
- Provide quality service in every client interaction.
- Perform and are evaluated in a fast paced environment that is challenged with fluctuating workloads. Work is evaluated on quality of decisions and written documentation as well as quantity of cases processed.
- Determine and assess client needs for services through interviews and other means.
- Contact consumers and other outside parties such as relatives, doctors, bankers, other state agency staff, absent parents, etc. to gather needed information.
Human Services Specialists working in Child Support Enforcement may also:
- Assist custodial and non-custodial parents to understand the roles, rights and responsibilities of all parties and the activities in regard to their case.
- Use personal contact and automated systems to gather and maintain personal, financial and legal information regarding children, their custodial and non-custodial parents.
- Locate absent parents, their employment, and assets.
- Assist legal staff in establishing paternity and establishing, modifying and enforcing child and medical support.
- Calculate, maintain and monitor support obligations, arrearages owed, and payments received, distributed and disbursed.
Human Services Specialists working in Economic and Employment Support may also:
- Maximize the self sufficiency of individuals and families through provision of services and benefits.
- Assist clients in preparing for employment, finding a job and applying for services;
- Determine eligibility for services and issue accurate benefits.
- Interpret and apply complex federal and state rules regarding eligibility for services.
- Refer clients to other resources available in the community.
Human Services Specialists working in Disability Determination Services may also:
- Develop and analyze complex and detailed medical, psychological, vocational and legal information.
- Respond to inquiries regarding status of claims.
- Write analyses of information and legally defensible rationales for final decisions.
Successful candidates must be well organized, focused, and able to work on a variety of tasks at one time.
Minimum
Job Requirements
Four years of experience interviewing, investigating or providing technical assistance in a social/human service, employment service or problem resolution setting. Education may be substituted as determined relevant by the agency.
