December 3, 2007 - SRS announces new program to provide services to children with Autism
                  Autism Home and Community Based Services Medicaid Waiver Program

Topeka – Starting January 2008, the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) will implement a new program designed to provide early intervention services to children with Autism. 

The Autism Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Medicaid Waiver program will provide early intensive intervention services to children ages 0-5.  The program will serve approximately 25 children in the first year. 

To be eligible for services, a child must have a diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder, and meet both the functional eligibility requirements and financial means testing for Medicaid eligibility.

Services provided through the Autism Waiver include: respite care, parent support, family adjustment counseling, the services of an Autism Specialist to assist in carrying out the child’s program of care, and intensive individuals supports to assist in acquiring and retaining self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills.
