August 14, 2007 - SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION TO NEW SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT SYSTEM

Topeka- The Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) contracted with ValueOptions to serve as the statewide managed care provider for substance abuse treatment services. The July 1st transition to the managed care provider occurred on schedule without incident.

As a result of recommendations made by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, SRS elected to develop a Prepaid Inpatient Health Plan (PIHP) to better serve Kansans in need of substance abuse treatment. ValueOptions was selected to manage outpatient and inpatient substance abuse treatment services under the direction of the SRS.

During the first month of operation ValueOptions received and processed over 4,000 claims for substance abuse services rendered and responded to over 1,600 customer service/clinical calls.

“We are extremely pleased with the result of the transition,” said SRS Secretary Don Jordan. “I am excited to see that Kansans needing treatment will receive services in quality settings.  ValueOptions has handled the transition remarkably well.”

ValueOptions spent extensive time and effort developing a solid provider network. The company made additional moves to assure readiness for assuming their managed care duties on July 1st by hiring additional staff to meet with providers and aid them in completing applications and contracts.

During the initial implementation phase, SRS met daily ValueOptions to ensure any issues were addressed in a timely manner. Continued training is available for providers throughout the month of August.
