August 1, 2007 - LIEAP: Supplemental Benefits Unavailable Due To Funding Shortages

Topeka- The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) will not offer supplemental benefits this year due to insufficient federal funds.

LIEAP provides an annual benefit to help qualifying households pay winter heating bills. People with disabilities, elderly persons, and families with children are the primary groups assisted.

SRS accepted applications from January 16, 2007 through March 31, 2007. SRS has received 49,263 applications and approved 41,289. The average benefit provided is $293.44. Total benefits issued to date are a little more than $12.1 million.
