August 11, 2003 - SRS Representative Available in Comanche County; Scheduled times in both Coldwater and Protection
Garden City, Kans.—A representative of the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) will be in Coldwater on the second Tuesday of each month from 9AM to 12 at the courthouse. On the 4th Tuesday of the each month, the SRS representative will be available at the health department in Coldwater from 9 AM to 12 and then at the newly opened Protection Library from 1:30 to 3:30. You may stop by to talk with them or call toll-free 1-888-369-4777 and ask to talk with Karen Baessler, the worker for Comanche County
Garden City SRS Area Director Lea Ann Curtis said SRS staff worked with community partners in Comanche County to establish "access points" for SRS information and services. The following partners agreed to help their community access SRS services.

"The communities in Comanche County have been wonderful! I know it is hard for a community to see their SRS office or any other office or business close. However, through collaboration with community partners, SRS services for vulnerable Kansans remain available even without an office in each county," said Curtis.
In addition to setting up access points, SRS provides a toll-free telephone
number so people can reach SRS without long-distance charges at 1-888-369-4777.
Also, an internet based screening tool and application will soon be available
for those who feel comfortable using such a tool.
