July 14, 2003 - SRS offers assistance with heating and cooling costs to eligible households Topeka—Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) Secretary Janet Schalansky announced today that the agency has received an additional $5 million in federal funding to help low income Kansans pay for cooling and heating costs. The assistance is offered through the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) administered by SRS. These additional funds will be distributed automatically to those individuals who applied for and received a LIEAP benefit between January and March 2003. These funds can be used to pay either heating or cooling costs. "We are grateful for the additional $5 million to help low-income Kansans with their energy bills. Summer temperatures are heating up and that means increased energy consumption and costs as we rely on air conditioning to keep cool," said Secretary Schalansky. Persons that received energy assistance earlier this year but have moved or changed energy vendors since they received their original benefit should call 1-800-432-0043 to update their mailing address and vendor information.
