October 28, 2002 - Governor's Commission on Autism to meet October 30 in Topeka The Governor's Commission on Autism will meet on Wednesday, October 30,
in Topeka beginning at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will be at the Kansas Department
of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) Learning Center, Room B. The
Learning Center is located on the former Topeka State Hospital grounds
west of 2nd Street and MacVicar Street. Among items on the agenda is an update on the current state budget and
discussion of a possible early intervention waiver for children with autism.

services available to individuals who otherwise would qualify for services
in an institutional setting. A public forum during the commission meeting is set for 10 a.m. The commission
will also spend the afternoon working on strategic planning, including
mapping out goals and projects for the coming year. For more information, contact Sean Swindler, a family support worker for the Health Care Policy Division within SRS at (913) 826-7525.
