October 17, 2001 - Governor’s Commission on Autism to meet October 23 in TopekaThe Kansas Governor’s Commission on Autism will meet in Topeka on Tuesday, October 23, beginning at 9 a.m. The meeting will be held in the basement conference room of the former Hayden High School building, 8th and Van Buren, in downtown Topeka. Enter through the west door of the building. The meeting, which will last until 4 p.m., includes a public forum beginning at 9:30 a.m. Also on the agenda is a presentation by representatives of the Kansas Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment and Recovery unit of the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS). The presentation concerns the Home- and Community-Based Services Waiver for children with Severe Emotional Disturbance, a program that provides intensive support for children with severe mental illness who otherwise would be admitted to a state hospital.
