May 10, 2000 - Public invited to give input into next years SRS social service budget during May 11 brainstorming session at the Kansas Museum of History The public is invited to share their ideas about next years state social service budget at a public meeting on Thursday, May 11, at the Kansas Museum of History, 6425 SW 6th Street, in Topeka. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. with registration. Kansans may also participate in the meeting by teleconference at one of the 11 Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) area offices. The SRS area offices are located in Chanute, Emporia, Garden City, Hays, Hutchinson, Kansas City, Lawrence, Manhattan, Olathe, and Wichita. The meeting offers Kansans a chance to comment on the Fiscal Year 2002 budget, which will be submitted to Governor Graves in September and goes into effect July 1, 2001. Participants will be asked to take part in an informal brainstorming session about the social service budget in the morning. This discussion will be facilitated by George Vega, executive director of Human Resources for SRS. At 1 p.m., Secretary Janet Schalansky will speak to the group about her vision for services. Deputy Secretary Diane Duffy will provide a legislative update and a briefing on the SRS budget.
