Topeka---The Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) will hold two public forums on Wednesday, November 8. Defining Child Abuse and Neglect will be held from 7-9 pm at Neosho County Community College, 800 West 14th Street, Sanders Hall Auditorium, Chanute, Kansas. The purpose of the forum is to discuss how to define child abuse and neglect, and determine when a child is at risk and should be removed from their home. All social service providers, court officials, school personnel, parents, foster parents, and anyone else concerned about the well-being of children in our society are encouraged to attend. Information gathered at the forum will be used by SRS to make recommendations to the legislature regarding child abuse and neglect laws, regulations, and policies.

A second public forum, Adoption and Foster Care Update, will be held the same day at the Chanute Area SRS Office, 1500 West 7th, Kansas Room, Chanute, Kansas, from 2-4 pm. SRS Secretary Janet Schalansky and Assistant Secretary Joyce Allegrucci will host the forum. All child welfare contractors, subcontractors, foster parents, school personnel, and court officials are invited to attend.
