NOVEMBER 16, 1998 - SRS's Web site receives record number of visits; new Intranet for employee use set to begin

The Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services Web site received a record number of visitors in October, with 47,679 people logging on.

The site - http://www.ink.org/public/srs - has been on-line since March, 1997. It provides information about SRS locations, services, customer helps, press releases, and other valuable agency information. Recent additions to the pages including welfare to work information, a press release archive, and a listing of 800 numbers that can be used to get assistance, have helped increase interest in the SRS Web pages.

Using the Net, SRS receives mail on a daily basis from people all over Kansas and the United States looking for information about the agency. Most inquires are from people interested in SRS programs. Some are from other states and government agencies seeking information about SRS.

Since the success of the Internet Web site, SRS will now be creating an inner-agency web site - the SRS Intranet - designed to improve and speed up communication and data sharing between agency employees. With the Intranet, employees will be able to gain faster access to forms, policies and other materials.

Increased efficiency gained through use of the Intranet will also translate into improved service for customers, said SRS Secretary Rochelle Chronister. The Intranet will go on-line November 16. It will be used exclusively by SRS staff to access such things as agency forms, written policies, and library materials.

"We are always in the business of finding ways to increase efficiency and improve customer service," said SRS Secretary Rochelle Chronister. "Both the SRS pages on the Internet and the inter-agency Intranet will do both of these things. It is a better way of doing business."
