April 3, 1996 - Chronister to lead SRS Open Meeting in Wichita Tuesday

Members of the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services management team, including Secretary Rochelle Chronister and Deputy Secretary Janet Schalansky, will be in Wichita Tuesday, April 9, to hold the department's quarterly Open Meeting at the Wichita Area Office.

Secretary Chronister and Deputy Secretary Schalansky will be available to discuss a number of social service issues affecting Kansans. Among these are major restructuring efforts underway at SRS, including privatization of several programs, and movement toward managed care for Medicaid recipients. The meeting will be held in the 3rd-floor conference room from 10 a.m. until noon.

A network of telecommunications will give Kansans across the state an opportunity to talk to Chronister, Schalansky, and other members of the SRS management team, including commissioners and directors of the department's major program. The Open Meeting will be connected via Kansas State University's Telenet system to the department's area

offices, where key staff will also be on hand to answer questions.

The public is invited to attend the Open Meeting, either in Wichita or in one of the 11 other Area Offices across the state. SRS officials will be able to respond to questions and comments from the SRS Area Offices in Chanute, Emporia, Garden City, Hays, Topeka, Olathe, Salina, Manhattan, Hutchinson and Lawrence.
