Sexual Predator Treatment Program

SPTP Mission Statement

The mission of the Sexual Predator Treatment Program of Kansas is to protect the public from, and provide treatment for, persons committed to our care as sexual predators.  This treatment shall be provided in a safe, secure and humane environment that protects both the residents and the public from harm until such time as those committed to our care may be released into society.

Sexual Predator Treatment Program

The State of Kansas has been in the forefront of the movement to set up treatment programs for working with violent sexual offenders.  The well-known Supreme Court case, Kansas v. Hendricks, established the fact that the Kansas program met constitutional requirements for this type of program.  As a result, most similar state programs around the country have modeled themselves closely after Kansas.  We frequently receive calls and visitors from around the country seeking advice and consultation based on the work we are doing here.

The Kansas Program used state-of-the-art techniques and treatment programs tailored to the needs of each individual Resident.  Each Resident must move through five separate Program phases.  The key to accomplishing this difficult task with this challenging population is the formation of a staff group that works in close cooperation with each other.

Over the next few years, the SPTP Program will expand to at least a 120 bed facility.  Consider joining our growing team and doing a job that matters!

About the Staff...

The treatment staff, under the direction of the Program/Clinical Director, is committed to providing the Residents with the most therapeutic experience possible.

All staff members in the Sexual Predator Treatment Program are considered an important part of the Treatment Team and are expected to respond in a therapeutic and professional manner to the Residents.

The Treatment Team meets regularly to make decisions about Resident issues.  Although Clinical Team personnel lead treatment groups and provide therapy for residents in the program, the tough job of helping a sexual offenders to change belongs to all members of the staff group.
