HELPFUL HINTS FOR JOB APPLICANTS

This information is provided to gain insights into filling out the State Employment Summary application
form and Larned State Hospital procedures for the application(s) and hiring process.

Employment Summary Form (job application):

Request a copy of the Job Description for the opening for which you are applying. This could assist you with the application.

Be certain your application is filled in neatly and is easy to read. It ensures all parts of the application will be considered.

Complete the application in detail and fill in blank areas with N/A if it doesn't apply to you.

You are required to submit a copy of school transcripts, licenses, etc. with the completed application if the position requires it.

Be specific with dates when listing work experience. Month and year is required. Some job openings accept number of months worked in a job. If you enter only the year, it cannot be determined if you worked only a month of that year or worked twelve months. You could possibly be screened out if not specific.

When describing a former job, be specific in details of that job, e.g., if it entailed computer use, What programs were used? Word Perfect, Lotus, etc..

Working at home, e.g., cabinet making can be used as experience. In a case like this it is necessary to be very specific. How many hours per day do you spend doing this, etc..

References are required. It is preferred they be an employer, supervisor, or manager, however, if you do not want your present employer notified, do not use him as a reference. (All SRS supervisors must be contacted). Friends or buddies are not considered good references. Recent graduates that are new to the job market can use specific teachers as references, e.g., wood shop teacher, etc..

Personal resumes are allowed to be attached to a completed Employment Summary (job application).

Lack of a resume does not bar an applicant from consideration for employment.

Larned State Hospital Notification Procedures:

The Employment Summary application is used for the current opening only. It is not maintained or kept on file for other job openings, If you apply for another opening, a new form must be completed (you may want to retain a copy).

Human Resources (HR) notifies by letter, those applicants not selected for an interview.

The Interview Committee will telephone applicants who have been selected for interviews.

They will establish a date and time for the applicant to be interviewed by the selection committee. An Equal
Employment Opportunity (EEO) representative is included on all Larned State Hospital interview/selection committees.

The selected applicant will be extended a conditional offer by the EEO/Human Resources designee by telephone.

Human Resources notifies by letter, all applicants, with a formal offer to the applicant selected.
